Boldness MUST have a source. Boldness without a source is just stupidity! Boldness without a source is somebody just trying to put on boldness and just trying to stir up a certain amount of adrenaline and say,
‘I can do this. I know I can do this.’
But without a SOURCE, it’s not true boldness. So, if Joshua is going to be bold in what God has called for him to do, he’s going to have to have a SOURCE for that boldness. Now, if that were you or if it were me and God had come to you and [said],
‘I want you to lead this big group of people and I want you to do this and fight off all these battles.’
For you and I to be bold, we might have said,
‘Okay God, fine, we’ll do it. Here’s what I want to know. I want to know how every battle is going
down. I want to know what I’m supposed to do with this army. Where’s the enemy going to come
from? How’s it going to happen? And on what day is it going to happen? If you can tell me what
day it will be, THEN I’ll be ready for it and THEN I can be bold.’
And we might have wanted God to spell out every little detail. But that was NOT going to be Joshua’s source for boldness. God was not going to do that for him, but God DID give him a SOURCE for the boldness that he told him to walk in and it’s in verse 9:
Joshua 1:9 (KJV)
Have not I commanded thee? Be strong and of a good courage; be not afraid, neither be thou
dismayed: for the LORD thy God is with thee whithersoever thou goest.
Now here’s your source for boldness – ‘The Lord your God is with you wherever you go.’ Now that right there, that PROMISE in that one statement, ‘Lord your God is with you wherever you go’… that, that is better than trying to hear every little detail. That is better than trying to figure out every situation or circumstance that you find yourself in.
If you just KNEW that the Lord your God was with you everywhere you went –
Do you know what kind of boldness you would walk in?
Do you know the kind of strength and courage you would face in every situation?
