Therefore lay aside all filthiness and overflow of wickedness, and receive with meekness the implanted
word, which is able to save your souls. But be doers of the word, and not hearers only,
deceiving yourselves.
Kenneth Copeland:
You have to go to the Word. You have to humble yourself before it,
‘This is right. Whatever it says, I’m going to do. I’m not going to do it the way I’d like to do it.
I’m not going to alter the Word to fit my feelings and lifestyle. I’m going to change my feelings
and lifestyle to fit the Word.’
Billy Rash:
But somebody that does that though because of self-deception they believe they’re right. They’ll fight
you over it. They have convinced themselves…self-deceived.
In Jude, Cain convinced himself that God will accept this [offering]. It’s almost like you can hear him saying,
‘Yeah, it’s not the first fruit, but look I’m here. I’m making an offering to God. I’m worshipping,
so God will be pleased. He’ll be happy I brought…something. I didn’t just stay home.’
Cain wanted the good fruit to and so he self-deceives. That’s why he got angry because he didn’t take the Word.
It’s the same thing people do today. They’ll pray and say,
‘God, I need a word from you. I need you to speak to me.’
They go to church and hear the message. And the message is not what they wanted to hear, but
it is the message that God wanted them to hear to answer their prayer. But they get angry. They’d have
to break that self-deception.
People that don’t know the Word, their ignorance is why they do what they do. But this is not talking
about people that are ignorant. This is talking about people:
> who have heard the Word,
> depart from it, and
> now they’ve deceived themselves into thinking it’s okay.
And what happens is they redefine that Word. They just make it say something it doesn’t say
to fit their feelings or situation. And they love that tradition more than they do the Word.
Because if you bring them the Word, they get angry like Cain did. It’s a self-deception cycle progression:
steal, kill, destroy that has to get broken in people’s lives. People get so self-deceived they’ll argue one
part of the Word but not another. And it starts choking it off.
You and Gloria have lived it [what the Word says]. But most people didn’t want to make the choice to live it.
Kenneth Copeland:
Change your way of thinking, speaking, and conduct to fit the Word.
You don’t excuse it. You don’t try to change the Word to fit our conduct.
