“Let no one despise your youth, but be an example to the believers in
word, in conduct, in love, in spirit, in faith, in purity.”
We’ve heard about Faith, but I don’t think we think about it that much.
Hebrews 6:1-2 (New Living Translation)
“So let us stop going over the basic teachings about Christ again and again.
Let us go on instead and become mature in our understanding.
Surely we don’t need to start again with the fundamental importance of
repenting from evil deeds and placing our faith in God.
You don’t need further instruction about baptisms, the laying on of hands,
the resurrection of the dead, and eternal judgment.”
These are the basic, fundamental things. Most of Hebrews is about Faith. Faith is a foundational doctrine. Some people have trouble believing in wisdom, but in the book of James, it says to ask for wisdom. Jesus has made us wise.
What is the definition of the word, “is”? 2+2 is four, is the SAME as, 2+2 equals 4
So, Faith is substance. Faith is evidence. Faith is that receipt, certificate, piece of paper saying you have it, even though you don’t see it. Faith is the proof of what IS coming.
Hebrews 11:3 (New King James Version)
“By FAITH we understand that the worlds were framed by the WORD of God,
so that the things which are seen were not made of things which are visible.”
We know, in our heart, that God created the world. But some people think you’re crazy. Even our Christian faith, that we believe, is challenged. We didn’t SEE Jesus die on the Cross, but we BELIEVE it, and it puts us on a path to Heaven. We base our ENTIRE Christian life on something we don’t see.
A lot of us have faith at the end of time (Heaven), but many have trouble having faith in the moment/NOW. We need to believe now, and exercise our Faith. The Bible says we are to stand firm. This literally means ‘firmness’. You must have Faith and have NO doubt.
A tree is rooted, but even though its leaves may be blowing, we are to STAND FIRM, no matter what comes our way! The deeper our roots are, the better we are. We must be resolute and not fall down when things come our way. The more we build our Faith up, when things are going well, then, when bad things come, our Faith is ALREADY strong.
We must trust in Jesus; not things of this word. As Christians, many do not rebuke the devil. We need to do this and rebuke him and SAY that!
By Faith We:
Ø Are Justified
Romans 3:28 “Therefore we conclude that a man is JUSTIFIED by FAITH apart from the deeds of the law.”
We are justified just as if we’ve never sinned.
Ø Are Purified
Acts 15:9 “and made no distinction between us and them, PURIFYING their hearts by FAITH.”
We are purified by Faith.
Ø Are Sanctified
Acts 26:18 “’open their eyes, in order to turn them from darkness to light, and from the power of Satan to God, that
they may receive forgiveness of sins and an inheritance among those who are SANCTIFIED by FAITH in Me.’”
We are set apart for a special use.
Ø Have Access to Grace
Romans 5:2 “through whom also we have access by FAITH into this GRACE in which we stand,
and rejoice in hope of the glory of God.”
By Faith, we have access to Grace.
Ø Stand
Romans 11:20 “Well said. Because of unbelief they were broken off,
and you STAND by FAITH. Do not be haughty, but fear.”
2 Corinthians 1:24 “that we have dominion over your faith,
but are fellow workers for your joy; for by FAITH you STAND.”
We stand by Faith, even in a midst of a storm.
Ø Walk
2 Corinthians 5:7 “For we WALK by FAITH, not by sight.”
We walk by Faith, and every step we take, should be a step of Faith.
Ø Live
Habakkuk 2:4 “Behold the proud, His soul is not upright in him;
But the just shall LIVE by his FAITH.”
Romans 1:17 “For in it the righteousness of God is revealed from faith to faith;
as it is written, ‘The just shall LIVE by FAITH.’”
Galatians 3:11 “But that no one is justified by the law in the sight of God is evident,
for ‘the just shall LIVE by FAITH.’”
Hebrews 10:38 “Now the just shall LIVE by FAITH; But if anyone draws back,
My soul has no pleasure in him.”
We need to be the type of people that encourage others when the winds blow.
We have something to believe in. We need to LIVE by Faith.
Let’s compare Great Faith and Little Faith:
Greater Than (Great Faith)
(Looks like regular people)
Matthew 8:10 “When Jesus heard it, He marveled, and said to those who followed,
‘Assuredly, I say to you, I have not found such GREAT FAITH, not even in Israel!’”
Matthew 9:2 “Then behold, they brought to Him a paralytic lying on a bed.
When Jesus SAW their FAITH, He said to the paralytic,
‘Son, be of good cheer; your sins are forgiven you.’”
Matthew 15:28 “Then Jesus answered and said to her,
‘O woman, GREAT is your FAITH! Let it be to you as you desire.’
And her daughter was healed from that very hour.”
Less Than (Little Faith)
(Looks like the disciples)
Matthew 6:30 “Now if God so clothes the grass of the field, which today is,
and tomorrow is thrown into the oven, will He not much more clothe you,
O you of LITTLE FAITH?”
Matthew 8:26 “But He said to them, ‘Why are you fearful, O you of LITTLE FAITH’
Then He arose and rebuked the winds and the sea, and there was a great calm.”
Jesus asked them why then had little faith. The trees and flowers are not troubled.
We need to have Faith for TODAY!!! Back then, the disciples had Jesus on the outside (they could SEE Him), but we need Jesus on the INSIDE! You need to have Faith… NOW. The battle for Faith, many times, begins in the mind, but we need to put up a SHIELD OF FAITH.
Keep your eyes on God… no matter the circumstances.
Romans 10:17
“So then FAITH cometh by HEARING, and hearing by the WORD of God.”
